2015. hold is an experimental transdisciplinary performance involving hip hop and contemporary dancers, poet, digital artist, curator, and an indie pop composer. The work was an experimentation of a performance in an empty gallery space, dissecting themes of transient moments, unraveling equipment, hold and release, and locomotive movements.

A performance and discussion took place July 17 and 18, 2015 at the Dalhousie Art Gallery in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The project was a collaboration between Alexis Cormier, Peter Dykhuis, Jay Harvey, John Mullane, Margaret J. Westby and Ardath Whynacht.

What matters is the event, the repetition of the event as performance art, and the repetition of the performance as performance art, the video, and all that followed from that moment on –the discussion, the conversation. – Bracha Ettinger

Disciplines train, contain, they bring security.

Discipline shapes us in ways that expand possibility, while setting up boundaries that constrain us and narrow the field of vision into a more focussed image of ourselves.

Disciplinary affiliation is deeply political. This collaboration is a refusal of the political authority of discipline and the ways in which it distributes power and expertise in our working relationships as artists and with you.

To collaborate is to entangle, to collage, to make a mess of the disciplined ways in which we are trained to work.

To work outside discipline is to forgive security for a much murkier territory. We left behind our investment in the political projects of our disciplines to move toward a different way of working. This project was a temporary borderland. Together; a migration.

To contain is to hold together, to protect, to prevent expansion.
Here; we hold it together with a different intention.
